Commissioned by Kong Amsterdam, Refunk visually designed and produced the Stanislav Strikes Again & Again Hyves campaign. This project is part of a cross-media campaign by the Dutch government that aims to make Dutch citizens aware of the dangers of cybercrime and educate them on how to use the Internet in a safe way. The AV production was done by Comrad with director Roel Welling.
Cyber-criminal Stanislav stars as the main character in an Internet film, where he searches the web for information on potential victims. Everyone who logs into Hyves and plays the movie will see their own personalized video that includes their public profile information - like gender, name, age, amount of friends and hometown -, profile picture and public photos. After the movie is displayed a Hyver can send a message to his/her friends to notify them of their own personalized film or watch 5 tips on how to keep criminals like Stanislav away.
Half-a-day after the Stanislav campaign was launched it went viral without any media buy. With more than 5 million visitors and over 7 million friend forwards within 1 week, it makes it the most successful Hyves campaign to date. Stanislav was covered by numerous online and traditional newspapers and was shown on television by the Dutch NOS news.
On news blogs and Twitter many people responded very positively and many Hyvers posted pictures or recorded screen videos of their personalized movie on websites like Flickr and YouTube. The campaign also started a lively public debate about online privacy.
Due to its enormous success the campaign was taken offline after 7 days, because almost every active Hyves user was reached and to avoid the forwarded messages being perceived as spam.
